Disputing Unauthorized Transactions
Have peace of mind knowing that you won’t be held responsible for unauthorized transactions; Federal and state laws provide consumers protection against authorized electronic funds transfer (EFT) transactions if the consumer has followed certain rules and requirements. Make sure you understand your responsibilities so you can limit your liability.
Consumer’s responsibilities:
- Immediately notify the Bank if your card is lost or stolen to limit and/or prevent unauthorized transactions
- Immediately notify the Bank of any unauthorized transactions; check your statements as soon as you receive them
- In addition to oral notification, you must immediately provide written notification with specific information pertaining to the unauthorized transaction Return your letter to a new account representative at any of our locations.
- Always attempt to resolve the unauthorized transaction directly with the merchant first
- You must exercise reasonable care in safeguarding your card, including your PIN, from any unauthorized use.
- Unauthorized use means that you did not provide, directly, by implications or otherwise, the right to use your card and you received no benefit from the “unauthorized” purchase
- Failure to register your card with a SecureCode for online transactions is considered not safeguarding your card.
- Keep your account in good standing
